How to Choose the One.
SELECT WEDDING VENUE FIRST
After your personal style, the wedding venue is the biggest influencer for your dress. The dress and the wedding venue should relate: formal or relaxed, modern or vintage, over-the-top or simple. Even oceanside wedding venues differ in formality. You might be inclined to lean towards formal, modern, over-the-top if you are getting married at Belle Mer. You might be inclined to lean towards relaxed, vintage, and simple – if you are getting married at Newport Beach House or at Wychmere Beach Club on Cape Cod.
CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING THEME
Consider your wedding décor and style, as together with the venue’s natural setting and look and feel, your wedding theme and your dress will set the tone for your entire affair. Would you like your wedding ceremony to be right on the beach? Your cocktail hour outdoors? Are you planning on frolicking in the sand and water and your guests are on a wilder side? if so, skip the ball gown and chapel train and choose a billowing skirt that will effortlessly sway as you move
SHADES OF WHITE
If you were ever choosing a white paint color for your walls, you know that there are thousands of shades of white! Take your gown outside to see it in natural light. If your bridal salon has white, cool lights, ask if they can be dimmed or softened for warm glow. You want to see the dress in light setting as close as possible to the one during your wedding ceremony and reception.
CHECK THE TEMPERATURE
Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the outdoors. Make sure you are not too cold – consider a lightweight shawl or wrap to ward off goose bumps. Make sure you are not too hot – we love organza, chiffon, gazer and lace for beach dresses. These are light, airy fabrics that breath and move easily. You might get too hot in silk.
Consider the volume of the dress, also. The more volume, the heavier, and therefore, the less comfortable.
