Once a year, WE CAN, a Cape Cape non-profit dedicated to women’s empowerment, welcomes more than 100 guests to their signature annual luncheon for “A Day of Words, Wit, and Wisdom.” For the organization that provides mentoring as well as legal, financial, and work support for thousands of women each year, the event is devoted to hearing the success stories of those who have benefitted from WE CAN’s services as well as honoring volunteers and community leaders. And for the past six years, Wychmere Beach Club has proudly hosted the event, where the bright and airy Harbor Room overlooking the water has served as a fitting setting for this day of inspiration and celebration.
The Big Little Things
This event is all about transformative life events and female empowerment. The main portion of the event is a series of talks like the “Voices of WE CAN,” personal stories shared by women impacted by WE CAN in the past year. There is also a series of author talks followed by Q&As and meet and greets. (Last year’s list included notable writers such as Ann LeClaire and Helen Simonson.) The final event of the day crowns WE CAN’s “Woman of the Year.”
A Tight Schedule
Hosted on a weekday at lunch with many influential community leaders in attendance, it’s no surprise many guests have to leave right after the program. It means it’s imperative to the client that the luncheon remains on schedule – yet not feel rushed. The Wychmere staff takes several subtle steps to keep the program flowing, such as not forgoing dessert but instead leaving it on attendees’ chairs to double as the event’s favor: chocolates donated by Chatham Candy Manor.
