Destination weddings should feel like a vacation, at least according to Mary and Dan, who turned their Cape Cod wedding into a long weekend that kicked-off with a magical sunset rehearsal dinner for 160 at Wychmere Beach Club’s stunning setting on the water.

With guests flying in from across the country for their wedding, Mary and Dan wanted to turn their rehearsal dinner into a signature welcome to Cape Cod for all 160 guests. The easy part was the rehearsal dinner’s menu: “Cape Cod on a plate” in the form of lobster, clams, rustic potatoes, and corn on the cob. The challenge was how to make this casual event clearly distinct from the big day ahead since everyone would be back on the same property within 24 hours. Strings of café lights, the gift of a pair of flip-flops for each guest, casual lawn games overlooking the water, and a perfectly timed sunset set the scene for an amazing weekend among friends and family.
The Big Little Things
Dan’s sister wanted to surprise the soon-to-be-newlyweds with a sentimental slideshow. To keep it from Dan and Mary, she worked secretly with Wychmere Beach Club staff so they could find the perfect time for her to present without ruining the flow of the couple’s well-thought-out evening. As dinner came to an end, the staff stealthily set up a giant screen for the slideshow, plus, coordinated the music to seamlessly blend into the karaoke and dance party that followed.
Good Old-Fashioned Fun
As an event for family, friends, and all of their children, there had to be a way to entertain guests of all ages. The Longwood team set up ample lawn games in the garden, where guests played cornhole and croquet until the sun had fully set. Karaoke then helped keep the party going inside and was a great way to bring some serious laughter into the night.
